Get to Know Your Opponent: Hartwick

Last Year’s Result: Men lose 139-88, Women Lose 134-96

 Hartwick’s Meet Results: http://www.hartwickhawks.com/schedule.aspx?path=mswim

Top Point Scorer at RPI/Hartwick last year: Mike Rizzo: 12, Siena Sara: 12

Top Returning Point Scorer at Hartwick/RPI last year: Luis Santiestiban: 13. Imma Rutiagliano: 18

Record Against Hartwick in the Past Five Years: 1-4, 0-5

Fun Fact: Mike Rizzo is the only remaining swimmer on the team to have won an event against Hartwick.

Event to Watch: 50 free. Last year, Mulvehill beat Kalish by .05 and so far this year, Kalish’s best 50 times beats Mulvehill’s by .17 seconds.

Key Swimmers Lost from Hartwick: Luke Grunewald, Brad Ranson, Jeremy Torres. Losing their best distance swimmer, best sprinter, and best breastroker is a huge loss for Hartwick.

Diving: The men’s team have no divers so that should be 32 free points. The women have just one “diver” and she can only do 1 meter and is also listed on their roster as a swimmer, not a diver.

Incoming Freshmen: Hartwick men have four freshmen but none that should be making an impact on the outcome of the meet this Sunday. Though not a freshmen, Miles Blaney has returned to their team after a year off. The women have five freshmen although the only one of impact will be Maddy Hayes, a butterflier who’s best time this season so far is a 1:04 100 fly.

Description: After a weak freshman class and a very fast departing senior class, this Hartwick team is weaker than in years past. They lack depth in multiple events and their lack of divers could take them down in this dual meet. Hartwick has a few fast swimmers and the key to winning this meet will be to win key events and use our depth to keep the events we don’t win close in points.

Scoring out the Meet: I scored the meet using RPI's times vs. Ithaca and Hartwick's times vs. Rochester and the results, the only issues with the lining up is the relays. If you take our first medley relay time and pretend we didn't get DQed (or even add a second to their time to account for a slow relay start), we win the meet. The other issue is we haven't yet swam the 2 FR but i was conservative and said they'd finish 1-3 in that relay. The result of those assumptions is a 153-141 RPI win.  Get ready, this meet will be close.
