Get to Know Your Opponent: Hartwick
Last Year’s Result: Men lose 139-88, Women Lose 134-96
Hartwick’s Meet Results: http://www.hartwickhawks.com/schedule.aspx?path=mswim
Top Point Scorer at RPI/Hartwick last year: Mike Rizzo: 12,
Siena Sara: 12
Top Returning Point Scorer at Hartwick/RPI last year: Luis
Santiestiban: 13. Imma Rutiagliano: 18
Record Against Hartwick in the Past Five Years: 1-4, 0-5
Fun Fact: Mike Rizzo is the only remaining swimmer on the
team to have won an event against Hartwick.
Event to Watch: 50 free. Last year, Mulvehill beat Kalish by
.05 and so far this year, Kalish’s best 50 times beats Mulvehill’s by .17
seconds.
Key Swimmers Lost from Hartwick: Luke Grunewald, Brad
Ranson, Jeremy Torres. Losing their best distance swimmer, best sprinter, and
best breastroker is a huge loss for Hartwick.
Diving: The men’s team have no divers so that should be 32
free points. The women have just one “diver” and she can only do 1 meter and is
also listed on their roster as a swimmer, not a diver.
Incoming Freshmen: Hartwick men have four freshmen but none
that should be making an impact on the outcome of the meet this Sunday. Though
not a freshmen, Miles Blaney has returned to their team after a year off. The
women have five freshmen although the only one of impact will be Maddy Hayes, a
butterflier who’s best time this season so far is a 1:04 100 fly.
Description: After a weak freshman class and a very fast
departing senior class, this Hartwick team is weaker than in years past. They
lack depth in multiple events and their lack of divers could take them down in
this dual meet. Hartwick has a few fast swimmers and the key to winning this
meet will be to win key events and use our depth to keep the events we don’t
win close in points.
Scoring out the Meet: I scored the meet using RPI's times vs. Ithaca and Hartwick's times vs. Rochester and the results, the only issues with the lining up is the relays. If you take our first medley relay time and pretend we didn't get DQed (or even add a second to their time to account for a slow relay start), we win the meet. The other issue is we haven't yet swam the 2 FR but i was conservative and said they'd finish 1-3 in that relay. The result of those assumptions is a 153-141 RPI win. Get ready, this meet will be close.

Last Year’s Result: Men win 160-140, Women Lose 183-111
Last Year's Results:

Ithaca’s First Meet Results: http://athletics.ithaca.edu/documents/2014/10/18//mm5results1coldefaultcumsub.pdf
Top Point Scorer at RPI/Ithaca last year: Colin Lenhoff: 18.
Kathleen Bolton/Siena Sara: 13
Top Point Scorer at Ithaca/RPI last year: Clement
Towner/Lucas Zelehowsky: 18. Grace Ayer: 18
Record Against Ithaca in the Past Five Years: 1-4, 0-5
Fun Fact: Ithaca is the meet where freshmen tend to break out. Each year a freshman (or two) has picked up individual wins against
Ithaca: Richard Dong and Matt Schlehr (last year), Brian Polo (two years ago),
and Mike Rizzo (three years ago).
Event to Watch: 200 Breaststroke. James Bowe and Matt
Schlehr had the race of the meet last year, finishing at 2:13s each. With both
swimmers returning, it should be another great race.
Key Swimmers Lost from Ithaca: Taylor Van Cott, Zack Kundel,
Peter Knight, Connor White. That’s two of their best sprinters in Zack and
Peter, butterflyer Taylor, and backstroker Connor, plus others missing is a
huge loss for Ithaca.
Diving: Matt Morrison is good but he’s their only men’s
diver. The women’s team has a few freshmen divers but they didn't fair very
well last week.
Incoming Freshmen: As per Ithaca’s roster, the men’s team
has four freshmen, two breaststrokers, an IMer, and a butterflyer. Leading
their freshman class is Aidan Hartswick, breaststroker, with a best time of
1:00 (already went a 1:01.0 at the first dual meet) and 2:15. For the women,
Nilza Costa is a strong distance swimmer (5:25 and 11:09 in the first dual
meet).
Description: Despite all the losses to graduation, Ithaca is
still a very strong team. After last year’s shocking loss to RPI on the men's side, I wouldn't
count on them taking us lightly.

Congrats to both the Men's and Women's teams for beating RIT today! Also, congratulations to Shanny Lin for getting the NCAA B cut in the 200 fly!
Swimmers of the meet: Shanny Lin and Andrew Klobucher
Diver of the meet: Miguel Hummel

Last Year's Meet Results: http://www.rpiathletics.com/documents/2013/10/19/SwimRITvsRPI101913Results.pdf?id=1650
Top Point Scorer on RIT/RPI last year: Matt Rolleston: 12.
Brenna Woodling/Genna Senecal: 22
Top Three Returning Season Point Scorers on RIT: Matt
Rolleston: 212, Steven Paine: 144, Justin Morris: 121
Record Against RIT in the Past Five Years: 1-0, 1-0
Fun Fact: Senior Captain Adam Kalish leads the charge as he
has won 5 of his 11 career victories in the first meet of the season.
Similarly, Senior Faith Breen-Franklin has gotten off to quick starts with 2 of
her 5 career wins coming in the first meet of the season.
Event to Watch: Men’s 200 IM. One of only two events the RIT
Men won last year. The winner, Matt Rolleston returns.
Key Swimmers Lost from RIT: Scott Farrell, Peter Coutts:
Scott an integral sprinter in relays and Peter a solid breaststroker.
Key Freshman Men Added to RIT: Josh Enrico, Mitchell Sembert, John Stelmack: John goes 53.8 in his 100 fly and 100 back, Mitchell goes a 22.45 in his 50 and 49.64 in his 100 while John goes a 1:00 and a 2:09 in his 100 and 200 breastsroke (all times are best times, not dual meet times).
Key Freshman Women Added to RIT: Allison Crim, Jen Genovese:Allison goes a 1:03 and 2:16 backstroke, Jen goes a 25.78 and 56.68 freestyle,
Diving: I heard that John Tellgren kid is pretty good.
Description: An extremely young team last year that lost
very few pieces to graduation, RIT showed major growth from their loss at the
beginning of the season to RPI to their 7th place finish at states.
Swimmers like Matt Rolleston showed large improvements and are definitely a
more dangerous team than they were last year. RIT’s women’s team finished
states in 6th to RPI’s 7th.

Let me start with some advice for the freshmen: I'm sick, stay away from me.
Now for the boring stuff. Hope school is going well. My first exam was this week, but I was kind of in denial that I had to start the 3 month long season of constant exams, so I didn’t show up. I highly recommend this strategy as it is much more fun than studying. We are three days into official practice, so I hope there is still at least a little bit of excitement for the season left in you. Stay motivated each and every practice so that we can beat Ithaca again.
I left you hanging at the end of my last blog post, and I know you have all been waiting to hear how the USAM coaches did in the coach’s relay at our summer champs in August. We did the 200 medley relay, with Meg leading off, myself doing breaststroke, coach Rob doing fly, and my friend Niko anchoring. I regret to inform you that we were out touched by a team of 4 in-shape college swimmers. Hopefully next year Rob will pull his weight a little more so that we can take back our championship record. Something good did come out of this race though. Meg swam 50 backstroke in 23 seconds, and beat David Gardiner in the lane next to us. Looks like he lied about all that training he did over the summer. David almost got away with convincing us he trained. There’s no way Matt could get away with that because his new gut would give it away.
I know everyone misses Meg, and I wanted to let you know that she misses the whole team, too. Whenever we text her or snapchat her, she responds with something like “Even when I don’t have anything to do with you annoying kids, you still drive me crazy!” Aww she’s too nice!
See you dark and early at 6am weights!

Hi everyone!
Kathleen here. I am so excited to be back on campus! After working from 6am-5pm nearly everyday this summer, as well as swimming and lifting, I was certainly more than ready to come back to school. I did not swim as much as I would have liked, as my club practice times conflicted with the rec team that I was coaching every morning. So basically I swam for a little more than an hour 5 times a week. I did however really get into lifting. I lifted every other day all summer. The funny thing is that when I got back to campus I was talking to Aubrey and I realized I did the wrong lift all summer! It turns out Drew sent me like a separate individual email to me with the link to our weight program, except it wasn’t ours; it was softball’s. Sooo I was doing new stuff we’ve never done before- like hang cleans! It was definitely an experience. Anyways, whenever I wasn’t working I pretty much hung out with my friends, went to the beach, or spent time with my new baby Godson. I’m excited to be back in the water here, I missed you all so much! I also can’t wait to be back on deck cheering for you all! It’s so weird calling myself a sophomore and not being the baby on deck anymore- my apartment, with Barb and Siena, we always forget that we’re no longer the freshies. We live in Stac with a bunch of other athletes but we haven’t ventured out to meet any of them yet. The people above us are wicked loud and annoying so we don’t really like them all that much for that. Then again, we’re really loud. But oh well no one lives below us this year so it’s all good. Looking forward to a great season! See you all at practice!
Bye!

Hey gang!
I hope everyone’s summers were fantastic! It was awesome to see you all at the barbeque and I can’t wait to start seeing you on a daily basis soon, it’s been far, far too long! Singapore was fantastic; I missed the freezing winter you all had, and I got to visit some amazing places. I spent Chinese New Year at a turtle reserve on Tioman Island which is just off the coast of Malaysia (it’s also one of the prettiest beaches in the world according to Time Magazine). I then spent spring break in Vietnam where I travelled to Sapa and Ha Long Bay, Vietnam is the best place I’ve ever been, hands down. A couple weeks later my family visited and we spent a week in Thailand, a couple days at the beach and a couple days in Bangkok (we actually stayed in one of the areas that was closed off because of protestors, so that was pretty cool).
That being said, I’ve never been happier to be back in America (USA! USA!), upon returning I went to three weddings in May, so cool to see swimmer alumni! I worked this summer at Crestron Electronics in New Jersey, which was a really great experience. They tailored the job to what I wanted to do so it was a mix of design and engineering; I redesigned their basic control system that goes in colleges and meeting rooms around the world. I started the project and it would have taken about 9 months to complete, but if it ever gets finished it would go in all Microsoft conference rooms around the world, so I mean I’m kind of a big deal.
So anyway I’m super excited to be back! I’ve been lifting all summer, but I couldn’t find a pool in New Jersey so I’m a little out of swimming shape, and a little nervous about swimming with this freshman class. I got in the pool yesterday and swam a 500 though so I think I’m pretty much ready.
See you soon!
Faith

Hello teammates,
Hope everyone's summer has been going well. If you don't know, I spent most of my summer in Europe, France for a few days, then with family in Italy, and then working in Sicily, Italy. I'll have to tell you stories from then another time. Once I got back, I managed and coached for a little at my summer pool. Swam a little bit, but my club team was tapering and ended pretty soon after I got back. My team merged last year with NOVA in VA, so now we're a huge team. I wasn't in good enough shape to swim at long course champs coming back from Italy, so I went and watched finals a couple nights. The team we merged with trains 4 IM like no other, so they have 15 and 16 year olds that are just insane to watch swim. After that, I swam and lifted at the Y which wasn't bad. One day when I was there, a guy that used to swim on my club team was there. He was 6 years older than me, so it was really cool to catch up with him. Hope you guys got a chance to watch all the swimming on TV lately, some pretty exciting things have been happening. Looks like the United States will have a pretty young team going into Rio.
I moved into my apartment on Monday, both the Davids and I are living upstairs together. We have a one bedroom place, because we really wanted to work on the team bonding aspect this year. We do have other rooms, but we have designated those to the yoga room, the gardening room, and the food room. After, the first night here I woke up to a flat tire, that was a nice welcome back present to Troy. Got to bond a little more with David Connor, while changing the tire. If you didn't know he is basically an expert at cranking a car jack up in about 2 seconds. He's pretty talented at jacking.
David Connor and I have been swimming this week and helping Rob out at Emma Willard. We have a new cook book, so you can basically say we're on that Gordon Ramsay level. If you want some 5 star meals feel free to stop by at anytime. Just be prepared to do dishes. Pretty excited to get back into it and start training hard again. Really would like to come out strong early again and pull a repeat on Ithaca and get the momentum going for the season. Can't wait to see all your beautiful faces and almost naked bodies everyday again.

Hi All,
Well it’s been quite the summer. I’m kicking it here in
rural New Hampshire which is more exciting than it sounds. I’m working at BAE
Systems, which is a defense contractor, as a Technical Intern but doing the
work of an entry level mechanical engineer which is excellent. Electronic
Combat Solutions, the sub-sector I’m in, specializes in electronic warfare
systems for military aircraft but I can’t tell you about what I’m working on…
Sorry! It’s a great experience and I’m having a lot of fun and doing things
like root cause analysis, design work, and vibration and thermal analysis and
tests. I play the first base for one of the teams in our company softball
league so I run around some bases a few times a week for exercise. Just kidding
Shannon! I’m lifting a couple times a week and running because the only pool
near me is being repaired. Running is not nearly as much fun as swimming. It’s
actually quite awful and I wonder why people decide that running 26.2 miles is
worth doing. I’ve hiked a few 4000 footers this summer and some smaller
mountains. Jordan and I are planning a trip for next Tuesday to do The Great
Range up in the Adirondacks before school starts. It is 7 peaks and 20+ miles
which could be quite challenge if we decide to try and do it in one day. We’d
be looking at going for about 15 hours straight if we do that. But if our
previous strength coaches have taught us one thing, it has been how important
mental toughness is. I think Jordan and I can push through it just like we’ll
to push through the challenges that Shannon and the other coaches throw at us
this year. I’m 100% ready to come back and prepare to defend our Liberty League
Championship title!
LET’S GO RED!

What’s
going on guys….
Pretty
much been living the dream all summer. I got an internship at a place in
Amsterdam, NY, called Power and Composite Technologies. It is a global company,
with plants in the US, Hungary, and China, that specializes in power generation
plant components, but we also do things for the medical field, the oil
industry, just to name a few. Being one of only a handful of companies in the
world certified to make the parts we build, its actually pretty interesting
stuff. We build the majority of the nonmetallic components in the massive
generators that power cities all over the world. We also work with GE in the
R&D department and I’ve been able to work on some cool projects with that.
It’s a good mix of sitting behind a desk doing engineering type stuff, but I’m
also out on the shop floor a lot overseeing projects, fixing problems, running
tests, I have even designed a few new machines and machine parts. All in all I
enjoy it, can’t complain.
Outside
of work, which pretty much takes up the whole day, I’ve been rehabbing my
shoulder and recently started training again. Just tough when you go from DB
benching with 110lb dumbbells to like 15 pounders….. But that’s rehab for ya I guess. Just looking
forward to getting back to 100% and crushing workouts again.
When I’m
not working or training, which is basically never, I’ve been able to get out
and hike a few times, getting my motorcycle license this weekend, and maybe
coming back to school with a bike if I find the right one. Then I just hang out
with the girlfriend and try to catch up on sleep every once in a while. Every day
is just another day in paradise for me.
See you
guys in a few weeks

Hey from down South! So my summer has been pretty boring. I’ve been swimming and working basically everyday with
the occasional travelling to visit family and attend swim meets. Anyways I’m working at my mom’s daycare again for the fifth, and hopefully last summer. I work with about 30 kids each day, playing games with them, taking them to the beach, and working with them on their reading and math skills. The kids range between preschool and 6th grade and are hilarious! Swimming wise it’s been a tough summer. After not swimming since states and getting my tonsils out, I finally got back into the pool at the beginning of June and have been swimming everyday. My club coach has been extremely tough and very determined to get me back in shape before I come back up to Troy. The “fun” part of his coaching is that we have been swimming in a 30-yard pool all season, which is extremely difficult. (You’d be surprised at how much harder it is to a swim a 1,980-mile than a 1,650 mile and still try to be within 15 seconds of your best). Besides swimming and work, I’ve just been lounging out on the beach, travelling to Pittsburgh and Ohio to visit family and sleeping. Lots of sleeping. Can’t wait to see all of you in a few weeks! -Barb

Hey guys! So I've been asked to write up a blurb for the blog today so I'll tell you about my summer! I have been living in Troy all summer which has been quite the experience. I moved into my new apartment which was lots of fun an a total adventure. The landlord let my housemates and I do whatever renovations we wanted to I got to paint my room and rip up the carpet (woohooo!!). But in all seriousness its pretty exciting to have a place of my own and some super awesome roommates.
I have also been working out some and definitely diving like crazy (you know me, can't get enough ). And to top it all off I have been interning at GE Global Research Center over in Niskayuna. I currently work there full time for the summer as their Environmental Health and Safety Intern. It has been just the most amazing incredible experience. My job has multiple different facets to it. A lot of it is working on the day to day operational stuff...reporting water tests to the state, keeping track of hazardous waste, making sure we are up to regulations etc. I also work with our emergency response team on occasion - usually for special projects - so I tend to help out our fire chief and deputy lieutenant with various tasks around campus.
The last part of my job has a lot to do with special projects that come up around campus. This is the part that I honestly can't tell you a whole lot about (security stuff) but I'll try my best. This is where if there is an emergency, regulation change, or state audit I get to step up and make sure things get done to the point to meet what the state and various government agencies require. For example, if we need to remove PCB material, then I get to make sure that we follow all the rules and regulations the EPA, DEC, and DOT have set out as well as set up with the emergency response team what we will do in case something goes wrong. So yeah! Work has my head spinning 90% of the time but honestly it is so amazing. And to top it all off I have been finding out what incredible towns Troy and Albany are too! Lucky me got to see the Styx and Foreigner in concert (I still can't believe that) But anyways, yeah its been a ridiculous summer full of everything and I hope y'all are having just as much fun and adventure as I am managing here back in Troy. Can't wait to see you soon!

Hey everyone! Greetings from Troy! This summer has been pretty laid back for me but I'm still lifting and swimming and doing what I need to do; it's my last year so I gotta go big or go home...graduate...hopefully not end up back at home...
Anyways I'm working with the captains to plan an awesome start of the year BBQ so we can have an afternoon of fun and get to know the freshmen before the year starts! We're also doing our annual trip to the racetrack one of the school weekends so get excited for these two super fun swim team events (yay team bonding)!
As far as workouts go I can say that I work out every weekday, and do something fun every weekend aka cruising around on my beach bike! I've been lifting twice a week and doing cardio everyday but have unfortunately run into some back problems. This week I even got the have these cool knife shaped (but not sharp!) things prodded into my back...something about stress...probably shouldn't worry about it (bad stress joke). Right now is the time to really start getting back into the swing of things with swimming. If you haven't gotten in the water at all you definitely should. Captains practices will be here before you know and you'll be a lot happier not dying, trust me! Hitting the ground running will not only keep you from drowning during test sets, but also give you more time to get better, faster and stronger!
Marissa and I have been having a blast at 2218 and have recently added crafting and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen movies to our routine. Were looking for more movie ideas so if you have any send me a list!! Summer in Troy has offered a lot of opportunities for me in my research department. I'm even helping a PhD student who is getting a patent! I've been doing a lot of manufacturing and making prototypes, but when the whole job gets finished I'm most excited to see it in the real world, oh and add it to my resume #jobstatus.
Miss you guys!

I have been asked to write a blog post about my interesting daily adventures. Unfortunately, my daily adventures aren’t very interesting and consist of drifting from one job to the next, with an occasional trivia night at the Recovery Room. My trivia team has consistently been placing 4th and we haven’t won a single thing.
I managed to get a research position for the summer with Dr. Lee in the Chemical Engineering Department. I have been doing a lot of CAD for Dr. Lee. Yes thats right, chemical engineers doing CAD. We are investigating various polymer crystal structures and the shapes they make. I have been drawing these shapes and printing them using a 3D printer. Fun fact: It was shapes like these that were used to design the Water Cube in Beijing. Who knew they weren’t just bubbles! Soon, we will start working in the lab synthesizing nanoparticles for a completely different project.
In addition to research, I am coaching this summer at Uncle Sam, Rob and Meg’s age group team. I help out with all age groups from teaching lessons to 4 year olds, to coaching the senior level 18 year olds. Coaching has definitely been a great learning experience for me. My favorite punishment has become swimming with a weight vest. Unfortunately, most of the kids I coach aren’t quite big enough to do that, so I often have to downgrade to smaller ankle weights. My goal for the summer is to teach legal breaststroke kick to a girl name Mikaleigh, who has spent years trying to do it. I am super psyched for the coaches relay at the last meet of the season. USAM is the 2 year defending champ of the 200 medley relay and Marissa, Meg, Rob and I are planning on keeping up our streak!
If you are following the lift Drew gave us (he will be missed) you are on break this week. I don’t know about you, but I really needed that break. I was losing more and more motivation every time that 6:30 am alarm went off. But what kept me going was this: David Gardiner is lifting 3 days a week and swimming regularly, and he recently completed a triathlon. If David Gardiner is doing all that, I better get my ass out of bed. Enjoy the summer!

My
Fellow Americans,
Happy Independence Day! I hope that everyone has been keeping busy and enjoying the lack of school! Fortunately, due to a lengthy job search I ended up celebrating that freedom since school ended. I now have two full days of work under my belt, so I am a pretty big deal. Continuing with me being a big deal my 21st birthday is on Saturday and plan on going out with my brothers. Now onto swimming, it is not yet halfway through the summer and I am super excited to get back and start my final season. I am so excited in fact, that I haven’t been in the pool since States, but I hear good things about it! Since the school year ended I have been going hard in the weight room and have already put up new maxes in squats, db bench, and deadlift. Speaking of lifting, the new news on the team is that we are going through our fourth strength coach in four years. For those of you who are experiencing your first change in strength coach, don’t worry, just keeping working hard and everything will work out (see what I did there?). Enjoy the rest of your summer and I can’t wait to see you all in the fall.

Sup
guys!
I hope everyone’s summer is going great and you’re all staying in shape! I know it can be tough, but like Colin said earlier you can only get out what you put in. I’m having a sweet time up in Rochester, NY at the moment. Luckily I wasn’t here during the cold, haha. I’m lucky enough to have our very own diver Rob Evans in the area as well. So we have met up a few times to hang out. Right now I have an internship with Xerox in their research polymer coating labs. It’s a lot of fun, but a lot of work. Although I’m not able to get into the water every day because of work, I still find ways to stay in shape. I live with other interns in community college dorm rooms and we usually go outside to play soccer or travel to the nearest rock climbing wall. I highly recommend playing pick-up games with friends of any sport because it is a great way to have fun and to keep some sort of shape. In order to motivate me to keep swimming, I joined a local USA Swim club for the summer. I personally know that it isn’t easy for to go into a pool and swim a practice by myself without a coach or someone else to keep me in line. Even if it costs some more money, I know it will keep me in the best shape possible and I can easily keep track of my progress by participating in summer Long Course meets. My advice to you guys during the summer is find what will keep you motivated to stay in shape. If you are one of those swimmers who can swim around 6000 yards by themselves in an empty pool, props to you. I have a feeling we don’t have many of those, haha. If you need outside motivation, like I do, join a club where you have other swimmers and coaches to keep you motivated. Or if you just want to have fun, gather up friends and play a game of wiffleball, basketball, Frisbee, football, or anything else your heart desires. You have a whole summer to think of what you want to accomplish next season and the more you do now, the easier it will be when the season starts. Enjoy your summer!!

Hello Everyone,
For those of you who may not know, this is my 6th month of unstructured swim practice (that is not apart of a swim club or swimming with RPI). I am currently over halfway done with my co-op at United Technologies in Windsor Locks, CT and have been going through cycles of swimming and not swimming, usually on a weekly rotation.
Trust me, I understand how hard it can be to find the motivation to get into a pool everyday if you don't have a group to do it with. I am here to help any and all who may be having difficulty getting the motivation to get themselves into a pool. Remember what you get out of this sport is what you put into it, and I plan on putting a ton of effort into this season... Literally a ton... Yes, I mean 2000 pounds of effort into this swim season. For those of you who may not know (shout-out to the Freshman) I took the second semester of my junior year off to go on a co-op, which prevented me from going to states. This season I intend to make up for not swimming in that meet.
Myself and the other captains will be continuously updating the shared Google drive with some practices for anyone who may want one (click the link below or on the links page above to request access). I also hope that everyone is enjoying their summers wherever you may be. As always, feel free to reach out through email, text, a call, the blog, or any other form of communication. Remember don't tell people your dreams, show them. I am really looking forward to this season and I am proud to call all of you my teammates.
